BIO-REVEAL

Higgins / ProTeam Restorations has recently acquired a portable, fast testing method for mould and bacteria contamination levels. This will be particularly useful when remediating water/sewage claims for those insureds with "heightened awareness".   We will not be using this device for determining presence of mould/bacteria (unless we are requested to, in certain instances), at the beginning of a job.  Rather, its main purpose will be for specific cases where clarification is required upon job completion that no contamination is present.  I've received invoices from IAQ companies for clearance testing in the thousands of dollars over the last few years and am happy to say that I am offering this procedure as a value added service.

How it works:
The Bio-Reveal real-time microbial detection system measures ATP (adenosine triphosphate) a molecule found in all living organisms, such as bacteria, plant cells and mould.  Biological residues contain ATP that can be detected, quantified and tracked using BEM's Bio-Reveal real-time system.   The Bio-Reveal system uses bioluminescence to detect the presence of the ATP molecule.  ATP is the chemical compound in which energy is stored in all living cells.   In the ATP-luminometric test, the firefly enzyme (luciferase) in the presence of its substrate, luciferin, oxygen and magnesium ions catalyses conversion of chemical energy of ATP into light through oxidation-reduction reaction.  The quantity of light generated is directly proportional to the amount of ATP present, thus, the light units can be used to generate a good estimate of the biomass of cells in a sample.
